Former Tottenham midfielder Chris Waddle believes that manager Ange Postecoglou should not be solely blamed for the team's poor performance. He suggests that the club's recruitment strategy is a major issue.
In an interview, Waddle stated that he thinks the club will eventually part ways with Postecoglou, but he does not believe the manager is the main reason for the team's struggles.
"I don't think fans should blame Ange for everything," Waddle said. "Look at the managers Tottenham Hotspur have had in the past. They've had successful managers like Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte, who achieved great things at other clubs. So, it's not about the manager, it's about how the club operates and makes decisions."
Waddle also pointed out that Tottenham has a history of letting go of talented players who were crucial to the team's success. He suggests that the club needs a leader who can bring stability and direction to the team.
"The club needs someone who can inspire and lead the team, rather than relying on young players with little experience," Waddle said. "Someone who is at the top of their game, mature, and knows the game well."
Waddle also criticized Postecoglou's tactics, stating that he often lacks a plan B. However, he emphasized that he does not solely blame the manager for the team's struggles.
"I think the club's recruitment strategy is the main issue," Waddle said. "They need to look at how they operate and make decisions, rather than just blaming the manager."
